Keen Kolors Photography began in the 1980's in Northern
Minnesota with a young man and his dog. Later a camera and tripod
were added. Northern Minnesota is a great place to see nature up close and
personal. The word Minnesota comes from the Dakota Souix name for
the Minnesota River, Mnisota. The root of the word, 'mni', means
water. The state has 11,842 lakes larger than 10 acres. There
are 6,564 natural rivers and streams that form a cumulative flow of 69,000
miles. The area
retained its beauty and splendor as the man grew older and moved to the
big city.
One
weekend, in the spring of 2008, the man hopped on his Harley Davidson and
ventured up north to see his dear Mother.
Now, she is a hoot. She
is an author, a dance and aerobics instructor of many years, and she is
still quite involved in community arts in Northern Minnesota.
Son
and Mother spent Saturday together exploring nature, playing cribbage and
enjoying meals with one another. The
next day, Sunday, on his way home, Mr. Keen’s motorcycle was broadsided
by a driver running a red light. The
accident ruptured the oil line on the Harley and boiling hot oil flew
everywhere, including down the cyclist’s leg. The hot oil became
trapped inside the rider’s boot as he lay sprawled out on the ground.
This sent him to a hospital
bed, in the burn unit, with first degree burns on his leg.
After multiple skin-graft surgeries, he survived, bless God!
Then came the long monotonous months of recovery.
Eventually, Mr. Keen began to walk well enough to venture outside
again.
With his camera slung over his shoulder, he assumed a position of stillness,
watching and waiting as he recovered.
He ventured into nature’s hideaways, to provide you with these
beautifully detailed and candid shots of floral anatomy and winged
creatures in flight, that he had always enjoyed taking. It’s
amazing what you can see when you are patient and wait for nature to cross
your path. In these
photographic selections that change regularly, you will come eye to eye with
critters, insects, and bugs. You’ll
see Mama Ducks with their young. You’ll
witness beavers, badgers, and those incredible wood ducks and loons.
You’ll observe birds, bugs, and flowers—up close and personal.
We also have Monkey Work-X, where you will get the funny, the
fabulous and the dead…(skulls of course).
The
waiting is over, the photos have been shot, the quality has been graded
and hand selected to give you nothing-but-the-best for your viewing
pleasure. Let’s get started,
shall we?
